Join us for an engaging and comprehensive virtual training designed for high school educators interested in teaching AP Computer Science Principles. Our curriculum is an enhanced version of the Beauty and Joy of Computing (BJC) AP-CSP curriculum, enriched with computer control and robotic activities that focus on real-world, hands-on problem-solving challenges.

Workshop Highlights:

  • Hands on: Learn how to teach computer science through hand-on activities while preparing students to pass the AP exam. Each registered educator will receive a free Hummingbird Bit Premium Kit ($220 value) shipped directly to them to use during the 5-day virtual workshop and in their classroom!
  • Introduction to Programming: Learn foundational programming concepts through interactive activities such as the Click Alonzo Game and Modern Art with Polygons.
  • Abstraction: Explore data structures and program control structures with projects like Improving Games by Using Variables and Making Art by Using Data Structures.
  • Data Processing and Lists: Dive into lists, abstraction, and higher-order functions with activities including Contact Lists and Robots and Artificial Intelligence.
  • How the Internet Works: Understand network protocols and cybersecurity through topics like Reliable Communication and Cybersecurity.
  • Algorithms and Simulations: Use various types of analysis to solve problems, including Search Algorithms and Models and Simulations.
  • How Computers Work: Gain an overview of the history of computers, software, hardware, number bases, and binary data.

This training will prepare you to effectively teach our AP CSP byDesign course, equipping you with the skills and knowledge to successfully teach a computer science high school course.
