Lockette/Monroe Humanitarian Award

Named in honor of Rutherford Lockette and John Monroe.
Dr. Rutherford B. Lockette was a well respected university professor and humanitarian whose work advanced thought and practice in the fields of industrial arts and vocational education during the 1960s and & 70s. He was a Co-Director of a National Career Education Task Force created by the U.S. Commissioner of Education for the purpose of developing Guidelines for Industrial Arts in Career Education. His work was one of many steps taken over the decades that have helped to define and advance the worth of a technology and engineering education in schools and society today.
John Monroe was president of ITEEA and well known for his involvement with helping students to gain leadership skills that led to employment. John brought kindness and spirit to to all he met and influenced more lives than he ever realized.
Given to an individual who is an ITEEA member and has promoted humanistic values while serving as a technology and engineering education professional on the national/international, state/province, or local level in one or more of the following areas:
a) Developing social awareness,
b) Preserving democratic and/or human dignity processes, and/or
c) Maximizing the potential of individuals.
This award is presented at ITEEA's Annual Conference.
